Civil War Reenactment Sutlers

This list of Civil War reenactment sutlers is provided to help reenactors find all the Civil War reenactment supplies, uniforms, clothing (civilian & military), weapons & guns, and other equipment they will need.  This is an effort to provide as thorough and comprehensive a list of suppliers as possible so that you, the reenactor, can shop and find everything you need at the best prices.Innocent_(8277454963)

Today the term sutler is used to describe businesses that provide period uniforms and supplies to reenactors. These businesses will often themselves play the part of historical sutlers while selling their modern-day goods at reenactments.

WARNING: If you are new to reenacting, I strongly urge you to find and join a unit (see the Civil War Reenactment Units tab) before purchasing anything.  Each unit may have a specific impression or period that they are doing at this time and they may even recommend a particular source for certain uniforms or equipment.  Check with your unit 1st!  Meanwhile, some units have limited “loaner” equipment for newbies, so just ask.

To the best of my knowledge, these are all reputable sutlers who have been doing business for years with thousands of satisfied reenactors.  However, I make no endorsements and assume no liability for any orders or sutlers listed here, whatsoever!  Any descriptions or recommendations given below may come from the sutlers themselves or from satisfied reenactors.  We have all experienced orders that we were disappointed about and had to return.  However, please report continuous, unresolved problems in order for me to decide whether to continue to list that sutler.

These resources are listed in three sections on this page and they do repeat some sutlers: Sutlers by Category, an Index of All Sutlers, Etc., and Authentic Reproductions.

It is my desire to make this a comprehensive, yet current, resource for every active sutler.  If you know of one that is not listed or a link that needs to be updated, please contact me and give me the proper information.

    • I tried to respond to you when you 1st commented, but I never heard back from you. How is it going? Have you gotten a reenactment group started yet? Can I help you in any way? Let me hear from you.

  6. Hello there! I could have sworn I’ve been to this web site before but after going through a few of the articles

I realized it’s new to me. Anyways, I’m certainly delighted I discovered it and I’ll be book-marking it and checking back often!

  7. I am with the Marion Arkansas Chamber of Commerce. We have planned a Sultana Heritage Festival April 30-May 1, 2016 to commemorate the Sultana Steamboat Disaster of 1865. I’m in search of Living History Exhibitors and Civil War memorabilia vendors that would attend the festival. Could you assist me in finding a source for these type of exhibitors and vendors? Thank you for your time.

    • Tracy,

I recommend first that you go to my webpage http://civilwar-reenacting.com/reenactment-units and select some units from Arkansas, Tennessee (Memphis and western), and northern Mississippi. I noticed that each of these had one or more units that you could invite to participate. Click on the unit and search for contact information. Some may only have contact info on the “Join Up” page, but you can use that to contact the commanding officer.

  8. I’m looking to find a working used Enfield reproduction to start my husband in the hobby. Does anyone know a site where I can find people who are selling their old muskets, or consign them or are getting out of the hobby? Not looking to spend a ton but not trying to rip anyone off either. Ive found them for about $500-700 new so I would like to see any other options. Thanks!

  9. Looking to start I’ve wanted to do it ever since I was a little kid any help?

  10. How about adding us to your sutlers list…
